In this article, we will discuss the best way to clean TV screen. Various flat screen HDTV manufacturers recommend using custom-made LCD/plasma cleaners for your display. However, these are quite expensive and unnecessary. In fact, if you see the label on one of these “professional” cleaning solutions, you will be surprised that the main ingredient is usually just water and nothing like magical chemical. So, instead of wasting lots of money for a bottle of water you can make a homemade TV screen cleaner.
Things You Will Need to Clean TV Screen:
- Two pieces of soft, lint-free cloth
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Distilled water
- Measuring cup
- Q-tips (optional)
Steps to Clean TV Screen:
1.) Prepare the Screen
Turn off your TV and give it a chance to cool down. You should not attempt to clean TV screen until it is completely cool to the touch. Wait until it’s no longer warm to the touch before you proceed. You should turn off your screen before cleaning it as you will see dirt easily. However, ideally, you should unplug it to avoid any problem. In case you attempt to clean hot screens like those found on plasma screens it will make them hard to clean and can also do damage at worst.
2.) Dust the Screen
Try to remove as much dust you can without actually touching it. To remove dust you can use a can of compressed air held upright and at least a foot or more from the screen. It will dislodge most electrostatically-adhered dust particles. More ideal than a can of compressed air would be to use a simple rubber dusting bulb. The best way to clean a flat screen TV is by touching it as minimum as possible. Dust the screen to remove any dirt particles. Wipe the screen with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust. If you can’t see any visible smudges after you’re done dusting, stop here.
3.) Make a Mild Mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol and Water
As we mentioned earlier that buying a recommended TV screen cleaner will not worth. All of them contain the rich amount of water and nothing else. So, you can use your own homemade cleaner using isopropyl alcohol and water. You need to take equal parts of water and alcohol using a measuring cup. You should not use a concentrated solution of alcohol as it may react with the TV screen.
4.) Dip and Wipe
Once you are ready with the solution (cleaner), dip a clean cloth into the solution and remove excess solution. It is recommended to use a microfiber cloth but is should not wet only damp. Now, directly wipe the damp cloth over the screen, make sure you do not use too much pressure. You should clean TV screen with a cloth gently. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to dry out the screen. Do not leave any moisture on the TV screen as it may harm later on when you turn on your TV.
Additional Tips to Clean TV Screen:
- If the TV’s bezel makes it problematic to clean the edges and corners of the display then use a Q-tip dampened with the solution to get the corners and edges.
- Always use a microfiber or clean cloth as tiny hard particles can get trapped in fibers and leave scratches.
- You should well aware of using any chemical to clean a TV screen. Do not attempt to use ethyl alcohol, toluene, acetone, ethyl acid, ammonia, or methyl chloride. You should only use isopropyl alcohol.
- Remember, you should not use paper towels in any case as it may leave behind tiny bits of paper that can mess up with your display.
