  • Eyeglass cleansing spray
  • Baking soda
  • Water

Steps to Remove Scratches from Glasses

1.) Take a microfiber cloth to wipe the front and back side of each lens gently to remove any existing dust on the surface.

2.) Now, you will need to clean off any smudges by spraying the front of your lenses with one or two sprays of an eyeglass cleaning solution. Polish the lenses carefully using a microfiber cloth. Repeat the process on the back side of the lenses as well.

3.) Wear disposable gloves and then take 1 or 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a small cup or bowl. Then you will need to add 1 or 2 teaspoons of water in baking soda. Stir the mixture with the help of your finger it becomes a thick paste. If required, you can add additional water to get a proper consistency.

4.) Now you will need to spread a thick layer of the baking soda paste over the whole front surface of your glasses, and not just the scratched portion. Polish the lenses gently with the help of a microfiber cloth. Move it in small and circular motions. Apply only a slight pressure as you polish the lenses.

5.) Next, rinse the lenses properly using some lukewarm water. Then pat them dry with the help of a lint-free towel.

6.) You may need to repeat the process of baking soda application on the backside of the lenses in case you find some scratches there as well. After a couple of minutes, rinse the glasses with lukewarm water and pat dry using a lint-free towel.

7.) After that, you will need to apply one and a half teaspoon of car wax to a clean microfiber cloth. Wipe with this car wax applied cloth onto the surface of your eyeglass lenses. Wipe in circular motions until the solution is no longer noticeable. Use the clean part of the microfiber cloth to buff the lenses in order to remove any fine scratches which might be remaining.

Warnings to Consider When Removing Scratches from Glasses

  • Remember! Do not for any fabric or paper materials other than the microfiber cloths to clean glasses. This is because; such fabric or paper can all scratch your lenses more rather than removing them.
  • Also, do not use any household cleaners on your glass lenses as they can also ruin the condition rather than solving it.
  • In case you glass lenses have some special coating on them, such as antiglare or tinting, you may not be able to remove the scratches properly. In such case it is better to visit your eye-care professional to remove scratches from glasses.
